History
Changing from girlhood to womanhood can be a turbulent
time of emotion and physical changes, fraught with heartache,
disappointment and life-changing decisions. The road
to womanhood is not always a smooth path. Returning
from college and accepting a teaching position in the
public school system, founder and director Tanya Simmons
found herself immersed in the sea of young women seeking
counsel and guidance on how to deal with the challenges
of teen life. in summer 2002 she birthed Young Women
With A Purpose (YWWAP).The program was designed to build
self esteem and to help young women to discover their
purpose.
The summer program was great success
and the young ladies grew tremendously. However, they
still required support. This prompted Tanya to find
a new way to meet their needs. Thus an after-school
program was designed with two additional programs, Generation
Esther and Leaders In Training. This allowed the young
ladies to be in the program for at least a year. Since
2002 there have been approximately 150 young ladies
who have benefited from the program.
The vision of the program has grown and we have created
two new programs one for women, age 19-100, called Discovering
The Women Within and Young Seeds Of Promise, for young
girls, age 4-12. Through these programs it is our hope
that those who participate will discover their potential
and their purpose.
